The vitamins in your pack: Biotin, Zinc, EPA/DHA (Fish Oil), Hyaluronic Acid (Type ll Collagen), Selenium, B Complex
Biotin 5,000mcg
You may recognize vitamin B7 by its popular name of biotin. It is a water-soluble B vitamin found naturally in some foods and also in supplements. Biotin plays a vital role in assisting enzymes to break down fats, carbohydrates, and proteins in food. It also helps to regulate signals sent by cells and the activity of genes.
Some research studies have shown that biotin supplementation may help stimulate hair regrowth in people who have a clinical biotin deficiency or alopecia (hair loss).
Since biotin is produced in the intestines, people with inflammatory bowel disease or other conditions that disrupt the balance of intestinal bacteria may not be able to produce enough biotin.
Excessive alcohol use, cirrhosis, and congenital biotin deficiency (biotinidase deficiency) may increase your need for biotin. A number of medications can lead to biotin deficiency as well. Among those are beta-blockers, blood thinners, anticonvulsants, and retinoids.
Zinc 30mg
Zinc is a trace element (chemical element low in concentration and required in minute amounts) in the human body yet it is essential for a lot of biochemical processes. Some of the essential processes dependent on Zinc include cell reproduction, production and maintenance of hormone levels, protein synthesis and absorption of vitamins and other minerals.
Zinc plays an important role in hair tissue growth and repair. It also helps keep the oil glands around the follicles working properly.
Hair loss is a common symptom of zinc deficiency. Studies show resolving zinc deficiency with supplementation may reduce deficiency-related hair loss.
Zinc supplementation is important because even though dietary sources of zinc are common in most people’s diets, only 30% of the zinc present is absorbed.
EPA/DHA (Fish Oil) 500mg/250mg
Many people consume fish or fish oil supplements to promote hair growth and prevent hair loss, suggesting that the omega-3 found in fish oil:
- Provides essential proteins and nutrients to hair follicles and skin
- Prevents hair follicle inflammation — a factor that can directly contribute to hair loss
- Promotes circulation in the scalp that may trigger hair growth
There are three types of omega-3 fatty acids applicable to us. The two most widely talked about are eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). They are found in a variety of marine life such as tuna, herring, mackerel, and krill.
In the case of hair loss, unnatural accumulation of harmful substances such as free radicals, DHT, bacteria, and fungus in the scalp region can instigate and perpetuate inflammatory response to the tissues.
The symptoms of persistent inflammation will not only damage follicular cells but also limit a vital supply of nutrition and impede attempts to repair damaged cells. This often leads to chronic hair loss, which if left unaddressed may become irreversible. Therefore, managing chronic inflammation will encourage healthy function in the scalp and conceivably promote hair growth.
Omega-3 fish oil may be able to encourage healthy skin and hair growth due to its strong anti-inflammatory properties. By reducing chronic attacks to the scalp, the body can provide proper circulation and nourishment to the hair follicles and promote sustainable growth.
Hyaluronic Acid 50mg
Hyaluronic acid (or HA) is a natural compound found in the body’s dermal layer. A gel-like substance that primarily retains water, its primary role is to prevent the skin from drying out by maintaining a steady moisture level. As the primary lubricating agent in skin, it’s responsible for keeping the dermal layer soft and supple.
Hair loss can often occur because of the weakening of hair strands, making them more prone to breakage by brushing or bathing. Increased hyaluronic acid helps hair strands keep excess moisture without saturating the structure, which may help with reducing hair loss.
HA also helps by improving blood flow to the scalp, encouraging hair growth. This is especially effective with conditions like androgenetic alopecia since it influences the hair growth cycle directly.
Hyaluronic acid has antibacterial properties, which can help it reduce active sources of inflammation such as wounds or sores on the scalp. Concentrations of HA may increase around sites that are wounded or experience trauma, like large patches of hair fall.
The moisture-binding property of hyaluronic acid is beneficial to all hair types and textures by helping retain the proper balance of lipids, humectants, and proteins required for healthy hair.
Selenium 200mcg
Selenium is a trace mineral that plays many important roles in the body, including helping with hair growth.
Selenium has many benefits for hair, including:
- Selenium kills dandruff-causing fungus, which is why it’s an important ingredient in many dandruff treatments
- Selenium is essential for the production of thyroid hormones that help to regulate hair growth
- Free radicals can contribute to the damage that weakens hair follicles. Selenium helps to regenerate antioxidants in the body that neutralize these free radicals
Selenium deficiencies can occur when the blood isn’t able to properly absorb selenium. Some reasons for selenium deficiencies include drinking alcohol and smoking cigarettes. Symptoms of selenium deficiency include fatigue, difficulty concentrating, and hair loss.
Selenium also activates an enzyme important for the regeneration of important antioxidants in the body, such as vitamin C.
B Complex 100mg
B vitamins help with hair growth because they play a key role in producing red blood cells, which carry oxygen to the scalp so that hair follicles can generate new hair.
The B-Complex vitamins are essential micronutrients that ensure optimal health and well being. They are water-soluble and have minimal risk of toxicity. Among the various roles they play in overall health, they benefit healthy hair growth because they are required for the growth and development of the superficial layers of the skin and its appendages.
With the exception of Biotin which is the only B vitamin produced by the body, they are not synthesized and stocked in the body and need to be supplemented.
-Vitamin B2 metabolizes fats, carbohydrates, proteins or glucose to produce energy, including the energy used by hair follicles to manage the hair cycle and hair growth.
-Vitamin B2 also turns tryptophan (an essential amino-acid acquired from food) into Vitamin B3 which in turn activates Vitamin B6.
-Vitamin B3 is also known to detoxify skin and to keep hair in good condition.
-Vitamin B5 is known for its role in cell division in the hair follicle, promoting hair growth and moisture. Moreover, it may help prevent premature graying.
-Vitamin B6 helps the incorporation of cystine (a sulfur-containing amino acid) by the hair follicles to build the hair shaft and to create strong disulfide bonds.
-Vitamin B8 takes part in fat and protein metabolism and its deficiency may lead to hair loss.
-Vitamin B9 and B12 are coenzymes that take part in red blood cell production, bringing oxygen, among others, to tissues that build hair. It has been shown that Vitamin B9 stimulates hair follicles, preventing hair aging.
